ADHD

Hypnosis can be an effective aid to children and adults being treated by a physician for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD, formerly Attention Deficit Disorder, ADD). ADHD is presented as a condition, which seems “stuck,” but it is actually a set of behaviors. Although these behaviors are powerfully driven by emotion ( so they are not voluntary or easily changed by “discipline”), behaviors can be changed at an emotional level. The goal is to increase habits of focus. Dr. Mau also works to help clients develop more effective student and study skills.

The New York Times (Thakkar, 2013) reviewed scholarly research and noted that ADHD or an attention deficit is often diagnosed when significant sleep deficit is present - as a relaxation process, hypnosis is excellent for addressing sleep issues. A 2013 article in The Wall Street Journal reviewed research showing that ADHD medications do not boost children’s grades (Wang). While the medication can help improve focus, it does not necessarily increase study skills or drive to achieve. Motivational therapy can be an excellent approach to address these issues.  To view Wang’s article, click References and scroll to her name.
